Another day of learning

11th of Frostfall, 4E 201

Thankfully the fire was still going when we woke up this morning, but it was still bloody cold, so we had breakfast quickly and tore down the camp. With daylight as my ally, I knew where we were even before Lydia told me. It was the road that led past the hideout where I’d dealt with those escaped bandits, only a week or so after I left home.

We followed the road back towards Solitude. There was no sign that the Thalmor were looking for us, which was nice. Lydia still wouldn’t talk about how she’d ended up in the same cave as me, but I decided to drop the subject as we approached Meridia’s shrine. I might not be in the area again for a while, and needed my lady’s guidance, so I stopped to pray to her.

I can feel your eyes in the back of my head, Lydia!

Ghosts and disappointment

8th of Frostfall, 4E 201

I awoke early in the morning, and my first order of business was to investigate Wilhelm’s haunted barrow.  Ghosts might be creepy, but it would make a nice change from being singed with fire! My arm was still stinging from yesterday. After Lydia helped me to apply another healing potion, we had a bite to eat, left my unneeded things in the chest in our room, and headed outside.

A light snow was falling, but it was nothing too oppressive. We quickly spotted the barrow, its circular form rising above the village on the opposite side of the road from the inn. While it didn’t look any more inviting than the other Nord structures I’ve seen so far, I couldn’t see any spirits lingering around the place. It looked peaceful enough.

If there are any ghosts lurking around in there, come out now and we can talk this through!

Distractions, sword kidnappers, and new friends

29th of Heartfire, 4E 201

Nope. Not doing it.

That was my overriding thought this morning. A part of me wanted to head for this ‘High Hrothgar’ place. It was the closest I’d come to finally getting the answers I’d been looking for, after all. These ‘Greybeards’ seemed like the people who would know what was happening to me, and why my own people wanted to hurt me.

Another part of me didn’t want to poke that bee hive. What was it Frosysch used to say? “Never go near a Nord settlement unless you’re ready for Nords to come out”? Something like that, anyway. I was headed towards something, I felt, and I wasn’t sure if I was prepared for what it might be. I’m just me. I don’t know what this ‘dragon-born’ business is about, and I’m not sure if I want to know. Maybe ignorance is for the best?

Alyslle – Dragonborn, Thane of Whiterun, and very confused

28th of Heartfire, 4E 201

I was still frustrated this morning, so I resolved to leave Riverwood as soon as possible. My first port of call was Lucan at the Riverwood Trader, to return his stupid golden dragon claw thing. I wondered if he knew what it was really for, rather than just a pretty golden trinket?

No, he didn’t. He thanked me profusely for returning it to him, and immediately put it back in its rightful place – sitting on the counter, out in the open. Where anybody could just grab the thing. I told him that I’d used it to open a giant mystery door in an ancient crypt, but I don’t think it really sank in, as he just said that it was “interesting”.

Are you really just going to… leave it there? On the counter? The solid-gold key to ancient Nord mysteries? That’s already been stolen once before? Well, alright then…

Not all Nords are Nords, but ghosts are still scary

13th of Heartfire, 4E 201

By Azura, I felt awful this morning. I hadn’t slept much, and when I did, I had horrible dreams. The alchemy shop, called the Thaumaturgist’s Hut, was our first stop then, even before breakfast. The owner, a Nord lady called Lami, pointed out that I looked ill and offered to sell me a potion that would cure me of any disease I had.

I bought two of them, just to be sure, and drank one of them right away. I hated feeling that bad. They weren’t cheap, though – they cost about 220 gold each! Maybe I’m not as rich as I thought I was? Continue reading “Not all Nords are Nords, but ghosts are still scary”
